# Held-out set v3 (test set)

Twenty-one `dpl.plan/1` plans, each with a craft note in `notes/<name>.md`. Written on 18 October 2026 by Claude (Sonnet 5.5) acting as a film director and editor, for the v3 test set.

## What this set is for

A **test set** for the edit-readiness checker. Its plans are craft-correct: they are meant to cut together, with the details a careful planner would give (staging, line of action, spoken lines with listeners and a turning line, coverage roles, prop states, travel, journeys and sequences where there is a route or arc, sound and transitions). A later stage will inject faults into copies of these plans and run the checker over them. Nothing here is a planted fault.

## How it was made (independence)

The author wrote every plan blind to the rules. Allowed reading: `docs/dpl/DPL_PLAN_FORMAT.md`, `contracts/dpl/*.schema.json`, the `the-beacon` fixture as an example of format only, the `dpl` commands `validate`, `missing`, `schema`, `format`, `terms` and `shot-list`, general film craft, and (for plan 21) the *Tears of Steel* reference material named below. Not opened or run: any other held-out corpus or branch, other worktrees, the readiness rule code, `EDIT_READINESS.md`, `READINESS_BENCHMARK.md`, anything else under `tests/corpus/`, the readiness tests, and the commands `readiness`, `bench`, `apply` and `replan`. `dpl missing` was used the way a real planner would, to answer questions a careful plan can answer; where a question was left open it is on purpose and the plan's note says why.

The author also ran a private craft checklist over the plans (adjacent shots from one set-up at one size, subjects on the wrong side of the line, speakers seen during their lines, turning-line listeners seen within a second, hold lengths, prop states against changes, screen-direction reversals). That checklist was written from craft knowledge, not from the rules, and is not part of this repository.

## Rules for using the set

**Never use this set to tune rules.** It exists so that a rule's score on unseen plans means something. If a plan here is flagged, the finding is a result to report, not a reason to change a plan or a rule to match it. A set that has been tuned against stops being a test set; if that ever has to happen, write a new held-out set (v4) instead.

## Rights note for the reference-derived plan

Plan 21 is reference-derived (CC-BY), for study and benchmark use. Attribution: (CC) Blender Foundation | mango.blender.org. *Tears of Steel* (Blender Foundation, 2012) is licensed CC-BY 3.0; its actors keep their portrait rights. The plan was written from the shot strips, the shot boundaries (`labelling/shots.json`) and the English subtitles (`source/TOS-en.srt`) only. It describes framing and staging, gives the characters role names, and paraphrases the three spoken lines; no picture, frame, subtitle text or sound from the film is copied into the repository.

All other plans are invented for this set; their characters, places and lines are fictional.
