Privacy policy

Family Handoff keeps your family setup on your device and uses a small amount of technical information to keep the app working reliably.

Your family setup stays local

Profiles and app-selection state are stored on your iPhone or iPad. The Parent PIN is stored using Apple's Keychain through iOS secure storage. These details are not sent to our diagnostics service.

Apple's FamilyActivityPicker represents selected apps using privacy-preserving opaque tokens. Family Handoff does not send the names or tokens of selected apps, profile names, your PIN, contacts, messages, photos, location or user-entered text to its diagnostics endpoint.

Technical information we collect

The app sends limited technical data to a self-hosted diagnostics service. This includes app version and build, platform, startup timing, error codes and scrubbed JavaScript error or crash stacks. It also includes coarse app-interaction and status events, such as app launch, authorization result, picker completion, the number of allowed apps, and whether a handoff started or ended. These events help diagnose faults. They are not used for advertising, personal profiling, marketing or behavioural analytics.

Each app run has a newly generated random technical session identifier. We do not create a persistent user or device identifier, and routine diagnostics are not linked to customer accounts. The app has no account registration, advertising identifier or cross-app tracking.

Local diagnostic history

The app keeps bounded local JavaScript and native diagnostic histories of up to 32 entries each. Detailed histories remain on your device unless you explicitly choose Share diagnostics. After an interrupted session, a minimal recovery event can include the last technical operation reached. There is no continuous heartbeat or routine app-state diagnostic stream.

Purpose and retention

Collected technical data is used only for reliability, debugging, performance and support. The raw diagnostic service is configured to retain records for approximately 30 days, with automatic cleanup. The collector does not store client IP addresses or request headers, and HTTP access logging is disabled. Infrastructure providers process network traffic as needed to deliver the service.

Purchases and advertising

Family Handoff is a paid-upfront, one-time App Store purchase. Apple processes payment. Family Handoff does not collect payment-card details, bank information or other financial data. The app has no advertising, in-app purchases or subscriptions. We do not sell personal information or share diagnostic data with advertisers.

Support you choose to request

When you email support or choose to share a diagnostic report with us, we receive the information you decide to send and your email address if you use email. We use that information to answer your request and investigate the problem, not to market to you. A report you send directly to support may identify your support case. Please avoid sending personal information about a child.

Apple services and family use

The adult device owner configures and controls Family Handoff. A child is not asked to create an account. Apple's privacy terms apply to Family Controls, Managed Settings, the App Store and operating-system services. The app's controls work alongside iOS and iPadOS and do not create a separate device user account.

Your choices and contact

Use Parent settings to manage profiles and app choices. You can change Family Controls permission in Apple's settings. Removing the app removes its ordinary local app data; Keychain items may persist according to Apple's platform behaviour.
