This is version 2026-10-26 of our terms, live since 26 October 2026. It is the current version. Go to the terms page.
Terms
Terms of Service.
Effective date: 26 October 2026. These terms apply when you buy or use Shoot Plan, the filming-plan service at theamateur.co.uk, including its free shot-plan tools. Please read them before you buy or start using the free tools. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
1. About us
Shoot Plan is provided by The Amateur Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17469492), registered office 101 High Street, Great Cambourne, Cambridge CB23 6FZ. Contact us at support@theamateur.co.uk or through Support in your account.
2. What you buy
Each Shoot Plan purchase gives you one practical filming plan for the scope you choose (length of your finished video, key moments, locations, people on camera, filming time and extras), including one revision. A key moment is one thing the viewer must see or hear. You film your own material: Shoot Plan does not include filming, editing or finished video.
The plan is a planning aid; you remain responsible for permissions, access, safety and the people you film, as set out in our Acceptable Use Policy.
A plan you buy also lets your AI assistant make finished documents for up to 8 projects a month with the shot-plan tools (section 2A), for 3 months from the day you buy a Quick plan, 6 months for a Standard plan or 12 months for an Extended plan, or until Shoot Plan closes if that is sooner (section 10A). If you buy again, the months are added to the end; the monthly number stays 8. Documents your assistant makes from a plan you've bought never use up any of your monthly projects, but they do count towards the fair-use limits in section 2A.
Prize plans. We sometimes give a plan as a prize, using a prize code. To redeem a code, you need to be signed in to your Shoot Plan account and to accept these terms and our Acceptable Use Policy. Each code works once, for one plan of the tier it names (Quick, Standard or Extended), and only until the expiry date given with it, or until we give notice that Shoot Plan is closing if that is sooner (section 10A). After that it doesn't work and we don't replace it. A prize plan is free: we take no payment and charge nothing later. Once you've redeemed it, it works exactly like a bought plan of the same tier, including its revision and the extra monthly projects described above, which run from the day you redeem the code. A prize code or prize plan can't be transferred, sold, swapped for another tier or exchanged for cash, and the plan stays with the account that redeemed it. If your account is closed, a prize plan you haven't created ends, and nothing is refunded for it. The rules of the competition or promotion that gave you the code also apply. Where they say anything different about how Shoot Plan works, these terms apply.
2A. Free use of the shot-plan tools
The shot-plan tools help an AI assistant draft and check a shot plan, then prepare the shoot and the edit. To use them you need a Shoot Plan account and an agent key from Account → AI assistant, and you must have accepted these terms and our Acceptable Use Policy. You don't need to buy a plan. Each person may have one free account.
With a free account your assistant can make finished documents for up to 3 projects each calendar month (UK time). A project is one film or video, identified by the ID and title in its plan. A project counts the first time in a month that a tool successfully makes one of these documents for it: a shot list, generation briefs, a call sheet, a shoot-day pack, an edit guide or an edit file. After that you can make or remake its documents for the rest of that month without using another project. Drafting, checking, fixing, take logs and coverage never count. Calls we refuse, and calls that fail because of a fault on our side, don't count.
To keep the service fair, each account can make up to 20 finished documents per project and 60 in total each month, and the rate limits shown by shoot_plan_capabilities apply. shoot_plan_allowance shows how many projects you have used and when your count starts again.
Your count starts again on the 1st of each month. Unused projects don't carry over. When you reach your monthly number, the document tools stop for new projects until the next month; projects you've already started that month, and all the other tools, keep working. Nothing is charged automatically, and we don't ask for card details for free use.
If you've asked for our Shoot Plan emails, you can use 1 more project each month while you get them. If you unsubscribe, the extra project stops from the next month. Projects you've already used are never taken back. Accounts that get our emails under the soft opt-in described in our privacy notice don't receive this extra.
If you've bought a plan, section 2 sets out the higher monthly number it gives. The higher number applies, not the two added together.
We may change the monthly numbers for future months. We'll show any change in your account and in shoot_plan_capabilities at least 14 days before it applies, and we won't reduce a number during a month. The tools are a planning aid: a result is not a guarantee that a film will cut together. Section 9 applies to free use. You can use the tools from any country, but we can sell plans only to buyers in the countries listed in section 3. Section 10A explains what happens if we stop offering Shoot Plan.
3. Ordering and payment
You add plans to your basket and pay at checkout. Prices are shown in pounds sterling. The price shown is the full price you pay. Payment is taken by card through our payment provider, Stripe. At checkout, Stripe asks for your billing address and your card is authorised for the full price. We then check that we can accept your order and take the payment. Our contract with you starts when we take your payment; we then email an order confirmation. Stripe also emails you a payment receipt. An unfinished checkout is not an order, and nothing is charged for it.
You must be 18 or over to open an account or buy a plan.
Where we sell. Shoot Plan is on sale only to buyers in the United Kingdom (UK), the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar, the United States (US), Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and South Africa. We can't sell to buyers anywhere else yet, because we're not yet set up to deal with the sales taxes, such as VAT or GST, in other countries. This includes the European Union (EU), with its outermost regions such as Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, Saint Martin and the Canary Islands, and Monaco. We can't accept an order if your billing address, or the country where your card was issued, is outside the countries listed above. If we can't accept your order, we cancel the card authorisation so you are not charged. If a payment has already been taken, we cancel the order and refund it in full to the card you paid with.
Prize plans (section 2) aren't sold, so ordering, payment and the list of countries above don't apply to them. You can redeem a prize code wherever you live.
Plans work in an up-to-date web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. To use a plan where there's no signal, choose "Save for offline use" before you go, or print it or save it as a PDF.
4. Creating and using your plan
After payment you describe your shoot and create each plan when you are ready. Your plans stay available in your account, with your progress and exports. Any written revision request you send us is removed after the period set out in our privacy notice. The plan itself stays available.
5. Your right to cancel
If you are a consumer, you can cancel any plan you have not yet created within 14 days of payment and receive a full refund for it. You don't need to give a reason. A prize plan (section 2) is free, so there's no payment to refund if you cancel it. If you don't want a prize plan you haven't created, tell us and we'll remove it.
When you create a plan, you ask us to provide the service straight away. Before we do, you confirm that you understand that creating the plan starts the service, and that you can then no longer cancel that plan for a refund. We confirm this by email. Once a plan has been created, the right to cancel it ends.
You can use our model cancellation form, or cancel with a clear statement by email to support@theamateur.co.uk, or by choosing Request a refund in your account.
6. Refunds
- Change of mind: a full refund for any unused plan requested within 14 days of payment. After 14 days, or once a plan has been created, we do not give change-of-mind refunds. We pay change-of-mind refunds to the card you paid with within 14 days of the day you tell us you're cancelling. If you cancel a plan for a change-of-mind refund, the extra monthly projects it gave (section 2) end that day. We don't charge for any you've already used.
- If something is wrong with a plan: choose Contact support on the order page (Account → Orders, then View order), or open Support. Include your order reference and tell us what's wrong. Paid orders also have a Report a problem link. If a plan is faulty or not as described, we will correct it without using your included revision. If we can't put it right within a reasonable time, you are entitled to a price reduction or a refund, paid to the card you paid with within 14 days of our agreeing you're entitled to it.
Prize plans: because nothing is paid for a prize plan, there is no change-of-mind refund, price reduction or cash alternative. If a prize plan is faulty or not as described, we'll still correct it as set out above, without using your included revision.
To cancel, open the order in your account and choose Request a refund, or contact us. These rules do not affect your statutory rights, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
7. Revisions
Each plan includes one revision of your choice. Corrections to faults don't use your revision.
8. If you buy as a business
The change-of-mind refund in sections 5 and 6 applies to consumers. If you buy for a business, we will still correct faulty plans, and we may offer refunds at our discretion.
9. Our responsibility to you
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for the conduct of a shoot, for decisions you make on location, or for losses that were not foreseeable. We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for breaching your legal rights as a consumer.
10. Your account
Keep your sign-in secure.
We may suspend or close your account if it's used in breach of these terms or our Acceptable Use Policy. We'll tell you why and, unless there's a serious reason not to, give you reasonable notice first. If we close your account, we'll refund any plan you've paid for but not yet created, unless the payment has already been reversed, for example through a chargeback. Refunds go to the card you paid with. If we suspend your account, plans you haven't created stay available when the suspension ends, or you can ask us to refund them instead. Before we close an account we'll give you the chance to export plans you've created, unless the law or someone's safety stops us.
You can ask us to close your account through Support in your account, or by emailing support@theamateur.co.uk. Once we've checked the request comes from you, we'll close the account and refund any plan you've paid for but not yet created, even if the 14-day cancellation period has passed. Closing your account deletes your plans, so export any you want to keep first. This doesn't affect your rights under section 6 if a plan is faulty. We keep some records as described in our privacy notice.
10A. If we stop offering Shoot Plan
We may decide to stop offering Shoot Plan. If we do:
- Notice. We'll tell you at least 30 days before Shoot Plan closes. We'll email the address on your account and show a notice on theamateur.co.uk and in your account. The notice gives the closing date.
- New sales and prize codes stop. From the day of the notice we stop taking new orders and stop giving new prize codes. Prize codes that haven't been redeemed stop working that day, even if their expiry date is later, and we don't replace them or give anything instead. If you've already redeemed a code, you can still create that plan until the closing date.
- Plans you've created. Plans you've created stay available in your account, with your progress and exports, until the closing date. Please export, print or save any plan you want to keep before then. We don't promise to keep plans available after the closing date. Copies you've exported, printed or saved are yours to keep and use.
- Plans you've paid for but not created. You can still create them until the closing date, or ask us at any time before then to refund them instead. We pay that refund to the card you paid with within 14 days of your request. Any plan you've paid for but not created by the closing date is refunded in full, to the card you paid with, within 14 days of the closing date. You don't need to ask. This applies even if the 14-day cancellation period has passed, unless the payment has already been reversed, for example through a chargeback. A prize plan isn't refunded, because nothing was paid for it.
- Monthly projects and free use. The extra monthly projects a plan gives (section 2) and free use of the shot-plan tools (section 2A) carry on until the closing date and end then. Agent keys stop working on the closing date.
- Your data. On the closing date we close every Shoot Plan account. That deletes your plans and your other account data as our privacy notice describes for a closed account. We keep only the records it says we keep after an account closes, for the periods it gives: for example, order and payment records for 6 years from the end of the financial year of the order, for tax and accounting. Data can stay in our backups for some time afterwards, as the privacy notice explains. You can still use your data protection rights by emailing support@theamateur.co.uk.
- Your legal rights. Nothing in this section affects your legal rights as a consumer, including your rights under section 6 if a plan is faulty. You can still contact us at support@theamateur.co.uk about an order or a refund after the closing date.
This section is about closing Shoot Plan for everyone. Section 10 covers suspending or closing a single account.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or the service. Each version shows the date it took effect, and earlier versions stay available at https://theamateur.co.uk/terms/.
Your order is made under the version of these terms linked on your basket when you chose Checkout. We record that version and include it in your order confirmation email. A later version doesn't change the terms of an order you've already paid for unless you agree.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you may bring proceedings in England and Wales, or in the courts of Scotland or Northern Ireland if you live there. Please contact us first; we will try to resolve any problem quickly.
